Lab #8 Computer lab

10/11/18

Objective:

Students will demonstrate their ability to use excel to perform statistical analysis on their experimental data. They will use excel to make calculations and will use word to record procedures and charts.

Procedure:

  1. Open the final class data in excel
  2. copy all the control cell count data and put them all in one column, then take all the treatment data and place it in another column.
  3. Next go to the data tab and select data analysis, then descriptive statistic
  4. Click input range, then highlight all the control cell count data. next click output range and highlight where you want the data. Press ok and the statistics should show up.
  5. Take a descriptive statistic for both sets of data for your behavioral assay
  6. Students will then create histograms for their descriptive statistics
  7. in the data analysis scroll and click histogram. click input range and highlight the data. then click the output range and highlight the column to place it.

Conclusion:

Students figured out how to create statistical analysis’s for their different sets of data and compared them. They also learned how to properly form histograms to study the trend for the data. And to see if their data was normal or had outliers.

future steps:

In the future I want to make sure that even after I save my data twice, that it stays saved so I can finish my lab notebook. And next time I will just bring my personal computer to lab.
