The “Celebrating Exceptional Stars Gala,” hosted by the Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities (BCDD) on May 10, drew a crowd of 215 to the Fifth Floor of Cashion Academic Building on Baylor’s campus for dinner, dancing, and a silent auction. Attendees included community leaders, Baylor faculty and staff, and many parents of children who receive services at the Baylor Autism Resource Clinic (BARC) and the Clinic for Assessment, Research and Education (CARE). Baylor University and McLane Children’s Scott & White hosted an open house and tour to launch the Baylor University Center for Developmental Disabilities (BCDD) on April 1, at Hillcrest MacArthur Center. The ceremony coincided with the first day of National Autism Awareness Month. A standing-room-only crowd heard from Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr; Drayton McLane Jr., chair of the board of trustees for Scott & White Healthcare and Baylor Regent Emeritus; and John Boyd III, M.D., Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer at McLane Children’s Scott & White, who commended the collaborative effort that made the BCDD a reality.
