Baylor to Host Christian Higher Education Leaders [05/13/2017]

Baylor School of Education and the Department of Educational Leadership are hosting the eleventh annual Christian Higher Education Leadership Seminar on the Baylor campus May 14-17. Sponsored by the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities (IABCU), the event is geared to serve primarily senior leaders of faith-based colleges and universities, but the Seminar is open to all higher-education leaders and aspiring leaders.

Since the inaugural Seminar held at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2007, the program has provided leadership training opportunities for more than 250 leaders. Continue Reading →

Dean McLendon Takes on Added Role as Hale Endowed Professor [05/03/2017]

Michael K. McLendon, Ph.D., dean of Baylor University’s School of Education, has been named The Fred and Edith Hale Endowed Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy and interim director of the Hale Center for Educational Leadership. McLendon will continue his duties as dean, said L. Gregory Jones, Ph.D., executive vice president and provost of Baylor University.

“Our Pro Futuris vision calls us to an intentional focus on leadership development, and these existing center and professorship assets, along with Dean McLendon’s national prominence as a scholar and an advisor to states and foundations on leadership and policy in both K-12 and higher education settings, will provide a new pathway for the University to achieve its vision in leadership initiatives,” Jones said.

Learning to Lead: A Student Reflects on Earning a Minor in Leadership Studies [01/06/2016]

The stage was set; it was 7 p.m. on a December evening, and all the hard work was about to culminate in a grand occasion for the Baylor leadership capstone students.

I was among 28 students in two sections of the leadership capstone class, and we had been working all semester for this night — a chance to share with our peers and professor how we plan to change the world. One by one, each student gave a presentation, sharing action plans on how to remedy such serious issues as poverty, education, hunger and the prison system. SOE’s Dr. Karon LeCompte Becomes Faculty-in-Residence for Leadership LLC [10/16/2015]

Dr. Karon LeCompte, faculty-in-residence in the Leadership LLC, and her husband, Randy, love to welcome students to their new home in Dawson-Allen Hall.

When Dr. Karon LeCompte and her husband, Randy, moved into a new home this summer, it was a nice, quiet spot. That all changed on Aug. 19.

An assistant professor in the Baylor School of Education, LeCompte is serving as faculty-in-residence (FIR) at Baylor’s Leadership Living-Learning Center. She and Randy occupy a 2000-square-foot, three-bedroom apartment in Allen-Dawson Hall, living alongside more than 300 Baylor students, with more than two-thirds of them freshmen. Most of the students in Allen-Dawson are pursuing an academic minor in leadership through the School of Education.
