SOE Faculty and Graduate Students Lead Presentations at ASHE [12/01/2016]

For the second year, Baylor School of Education (SOE) dean, Dr. Michael McLendon, chaired the Graduate Student Policy Seminar for the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) annual conference, held in November. The seminar invites, through a competitive process, 50 advanced doctoral students from leading universities for a two-day pre-conference series of discussions, addresses and workshops around issues pertaining to public policy and higher education.

McLendon also served as a panelist and discussant for two separate sessions — on “Policy Influencers” and “Reaction to the November Election.”

In addition, SOE faculty members Dr. Lakia Scott and Dr. Nathan Alleman and doctoral student Cara Allen gave presentations at the conference. Continue Reading →

School of Education Faculty Present at AERA [05/04/2016]

Several Baylor School of Education faculty members presented research at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), held in Washington, D.C., April 8-12.

AERA is a national research society that is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. Its more than 25,000 members include faculty, researchers, graduate students, and other distinguished professionals with expertise in education research.

Four School of Education Faculty Receive Tenure [04/13/2016]

The Baylor School of Education is celebrating four faculty members who received tenure this spring, with promotion to associate professor status in the fall:

Dr. Nathan Alleman, Department of Educational Administration
Dr. Karon LeCompte, Department of Curriculum & Instruction
Dr. Grant Morgan, Department of Educational Psychology
Dr. Rishi Sriram, Department of Educational Administration

325-Alleman_NathanAlleman, who earned a PhD from the College of William and Mary in 2008 and a master’s in higher education from Geneva College in 2002, specializes in the study of higher and postsecondary education. He joined the Baylor faculty in 2010.

Alleman’s research interests and expertise address the study — often from a sociological perspective — of the American professoriate, faith-based colleges and universities, and college students. He has also focused research on marginalized groups and institutions in higher education. He has published recently on the legal and collegiate social status of undocumented college students, the role of rural communities in the preparation of low-income students for college, and the importance of school-university partnerships in promoting college attendance and success. Higher Education Researchers Present at ASHE Conference [11/04/2015]

McLendon-200The latest research on key higher education issues is being presented this week by researchers from Baylor School of Education at the annual conference of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), being held Nov. 4-8 in Denver.

Baylor School of Education Dean, Dr. Michael McLendon, two faculty members from the Department of Educational Administration, and two doctoral students from the department are part of the conference.

McLendon, also professor of higher education in the School of Education, is chairing the annual Graduate Student Policy Seminar, which familiarizes top PhD students from around the country with the work of senior scholars in the field of higher education.
