KylieTerry-ThumbTwo students in the School of Education (SOE) were awarded the Mathematics Preservice Teacher Scholarship from the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM). Both Baylor students from the Department of Curriculum & Instruction were announced as recipients during the annual Conference for the Advancement of Mathematic Teachers in Fort Worth July 21-23.

Kylie Terry (pictured above) and Niki Kratzer (pictured below) were two of 10 undergraduates awarded the statewide scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year. Both Terry and Kratzer plan to pursue teacher certification in EC-6. Terry is a junior from Katy, and Kratzer is a junior from Libertyville, Ill.

NikiKratzerThe $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to students attending a Texas college or university — public or private — who plan to pursue teacher certification at the elementary, middle or secondary level with a specialization or teaching field in mathematics. In order to qualify, preservice teachers must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a 3.25 in all courses that apply to their degree or certification. TCTM is a professional organization that encourages an active interest in mathematics.

Congratulations to both Terry and Kratzer for receiving the Mathematics Preservice Teacher Scholarship!
