Dr. Marshall Magnusen, associate professor of sport management in the Department of Educational Leadership, received the Research Fellow Award from the Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA). ASMA is a scholarly organization that aims to builds research partnerships scholars studying sport — both faculty and students — and practitioners working in the sport industry. The award recognizes “scholars who have demonstrated a commitment to ASMA and its vision, as well as distinction in sport management research and scholarly contributions to the conference and the official journal, the Journal of Applied Sport Management.
Magnusen received the award at the 2022 ASMA Conference this spring in Indianapolis, hosted by Ball State University. (Baylor hosted the conference in 2018 and 2020). Magnusen also presented research at the conference, as did Dr. Jeff Petersen, Baylor professor of sport management and program director of the master’s program, and two students — Garret Sulak and Derek Page.
Magnusen just completed a two-year term as president of ASMA and serves as editor of the Journal of Applied Sport Management.
As a scholar, Magnusen publishes in numerous journals and writes primarily in the areas of organizational behavior and human resource management, with particular consideration being given to the areas of recruiting and personnel selection, leadership, social effectiveness, and organizational politics.
Magnusen is formerly an associate editor of the Sport Management Education Journal. Currently, he is the editor of the Journal of Applied Sport Management and the president of the Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA). He serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of Amateur Sport and the Journal of Global Sport Management.
Baylor University’s Department of Athletics has recognized Dr. Magnusen as an exceptional teacher on more than one occasion; he received Outstanding Professor awards from the Athletics Department in 2014 and 2016.
