Volunteer work

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things a person can ever do. I have had the amazing blessing of participating in many volunteer events. The most notable of these would be my years as a VBS crew leader at Magnolias First Baptist Church, my work with the Montgomery county right to life organization, and my time working with the homeless in Houston through the Ecclesia church of Houston. These were all experiences that really changed the way I view other people and those in different walks of life than mine.

I participated in VBS at my church for three years and they were some of the most fun and inspiring times of my life. I had the pleasure of leading three different crews of kids, ranging in age from 6 to 11, each with a larger number of kids than the last. As their crew leader I would take them from event to event and show explain to them the stories of the bible that were being taught to them and have discussion with them about it. By the end of the week each time the church would have me share the gospel with them, which was an experience i will never forget. I also helped the church with odd jobs here and there sometimes cleaning facilities and preparing for events.

My VBS experience:
YEAR PROGRAM POSITION # of kids led
2015 Maker Fun Factory Crew Leader 5
2016 Cave Quest VBS Crew Leader 7
2017 Maker Fun Factory Senior Crew Leader 10

I also enjoyed my time working with the Montgomery Right To Life Organization (mrtl) in their efforts to teach people about the negative effects of abortion and to provide help to mothers and future mothers in need. This was something I was very personally attached to because the lives lost to abortion have always weighed heavily on my heart. Among the list of things I did there were:

  • Pack Envelopes for right to life events
  • Hold prayer meetings outside planned parenthood
  • Work as a waiter/doorman at annual mcrtl banquet dinner
  • work on Joy House, which is refuge for women who choose not to have an abortion

The third place I worked with was Ecclesia in Houston. Ecclesia is a community church that is involved in many volunteer programs in Houston. The one I was most involved in however was a ministry which would prepare food and toiletries for the homeless and give them out at a park near the church. I met quite a few interesting folks at these events and will never forget the joy many of them had even in their desperate situations. One of the most amazing people I have ever met was a man named Don. Don was a member of the church and an artist and through the churches out reach he went from living on the street to having his own apartment and being one of the most active members at Ecclesia.
