The “Ecology and Religion in 19th Century Studies” conference successfully pioneered a new model of multi-site, flightless conferencing in keeping with its environmental focus. More than 250 people participated at five different sites—Baylor, Georgetown, Lancaster, Washington, and Emory—while 601 viewers connected through the website from 165 cities in 19 nations. Such a model promises not only to reduce wasting resources, but also to connect a wider breadth of scholars within the academy and beyond.
