Hybrid Minds Preview Mountains LP

Hybrid Minds, a drum and bass duo comprised of Josh White & Matt Lowe, recently released a variety of tracks from their upcoming LP, Mountains, being released on Spearhead Records December 1st. A soulful liquid drum and bass group, Hybrid Minds have been at the forefront of Liquid DnB recently for their smooth, melodic tracks. Remixing songs from a variety of artists such as Daughter, Hybrid Minds show that not only are they good at creating music, but also remixing it. The previews from their new album show no less than what will be an amazing album. One song, Ascent, also features a UK rap artist named Charlie P, adding not only drum and bass, but also rap to the album. Many of the songs include piano, smooth vocals, orchestral influence,  and an all around calming vibe to the listener. I can tell that this is going to be a massive release. Here is a preview of one of their songs, “Music Talks” –

Recapping Austin City Limits 2013

ACL 2013 Music Festival Information

Two weeks ago I attended the music festival known as Austin City Limits, located in Zilker Park at Austin,TX. I had gone the previous year, and enjoyed it immensely, so I decided to go again this year. Boy, that was a good decision. The lineup this year, although less strong than last years, was still amazing. With acts such as Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon, Passion Pit, and Muse, the weekend was very entertaining. Starting at 11:15 am, the festival runs for about 11 hours, ending at 10:00 pm, Friday through Sunday.  The food at the festival was also very good. Instead of generic festival food like turkey legs and hot dogs from anonymous vendors, ACL likes to get local restaurants to set up shop in a section of the festival called Austin Eats. The Mighty Cone was one good vendor, serving up a variety of tacos in a cone. One of my favorite acts from the weekend was a smaller band called Reignwolf, serving up southern fried rock with a drop of alternative. This high energy set took place saturday morning, setting the mood for the rest of the day. I stayed until about 5:00 pm sunday, with the last band that I saw being Franz Ferdinand, who also put on an amazing, high energy show. Since music is one of my favorite things, this festival was like disney world to me. In short, this great weekend of music was a nice break from school, giving me a nice boost of energy for the rest of the week.

Baylor vs. Iowa State, Another Blowout Game

So this past weekend was homecoming weekend, and our homecoming game was against Iowa State. Iowa State is unranked, and so already most of Baylor was expecting a blowout win. But I definitely wasn’t expecting the annihilation that occurred that Saturday night. By the end of the 1st quarter, we were already up by 17, and 37 by the 2nd, all the while preventing Iowa State from even a field goal. In the end, the score was 71-7, with Iowa State not scoring until the last 5 minutes of the game. An especially impressive touchdown was from Corey Coleman at the end of the game with a 97 yard kickoff return. All in all I can say that this was an amazing game to watch, only strengthening the belief that Baylor is one of the best teams in the Big 12. Man, Baylor football is fun to watch. Sic ‘Em Bears.

Fall Break

Last weekend was fall break, and during that weekend I went back to my hometown of Dallas, TX. This weekend was fun because I was able to see a lot of friends that are still in Dallas, and hang out with my family. The home cooked meals weren’t too bad either. I also got to see a play that one of my friends was the lead in, called “Is he dead?” by Mark Twain. It was a very well produced play, and I enjoyed it very much. I also went back and visited my high school, and visited with some of my old teachers. All in all, it was a very successful fall break, and I enjoyed being able to see my family again.
