Africa FNP Capstone Planning 2009

Plans are underway for the 2009 trip. 8 students will journey to Africa. The first week will be spent in Ethiopia at a great clinic that sees a high volume of patients. The students will have the opportunity to learn first hand how to treat a wide variety of tropical diseases. Pellegra, Malaria, Tuberculosis of the lymph system will be among the cases that will be diagnosed and treated. Prenatal care and STI’s will also be treated. We will get to participate in an amazing nutrition program, observe in a lab and do community visits.

The team will then go to Malawi. Time will be divided between education and clinics. We hope to have time in a mobile clinic and a regional hospital. The students will work along side of resident missionaries and local health care providers to meet the needs of the communites they serve.

It will be a wonderful and challenging trip. The team of students is great. They have chosen to spend a month in Africa as a part of their clinical experience. It is a big commitment to spend time away from friends and family and to raise all of the costs of the trip. They are embracing the challenges that the trip preparation bring. I look forward to working with them in to serve our brothers and sisters in Africa. I am also blessed in that this trip Dr. Mary Ann Faucher my friend and fellow faculty member has accepted my invitation to join the team in Africa. I’m excited about what the Lord has in store for us. Please join me in praying for the team, the people we work with, the communities we will serve and that all of our actions glorify God.

Thank you,

Lori
