This first link provides an interactive timeline that shows some of the decisions of FDR to get the USA out of the Great Depression. It also shows when unemployment was at an all-time high, the emergence of war, and how the Great Depression came to an end. The National Museum of American History gives a great overview of the events that occurred during this time of crisis.

NMAH Timeline

This next link is a good site to gain understanding of what all the New Deal involved. The New Deal was proposed by FDR to get the US out of the economic crisis the nation faced. This site provides a good summary but includes many important details about what was in the New Deal and how it affected the US citizens.

FDR’s New Deal

In this link you will find some more insight on how children lived during the Great Depresion. It is brief, however, it does provide valuable information on how children lived and survived. It also provides a few of the physical and/or psychological problems children faced during this time.

Children’s Lifestyle

The most trusted source in this matter comes from the people who actually experienced the Great Depression. This link provides insight from a few of the people that lived through the crisis and how their everyday lives were affected. There are a few interviews on this site. This mostly pertains to how the youth had fun during time of little resources and farm life.

First-Hand Accounts

Unemployment was a huge concern for upcoming youth and young adults. Many couldn’t do anything about it in order to make a decent living. This link provides some background information on how joblessness affected the youth and explains the letters that were sent to Mrs. Roosevelt from children all over the country. There are also other articles on this site that provide information regarding the youth of the Great Depression (look for the “See Also” articles at the end of the article).

Children and the New Deal

In this last link, the article talks about the tough times on the people during the Great Depression. However, it does not go into much detail. This is to provide some comparison on how different articles can provide broad information instead of important details and/or perspectives.
