Alumni Updates — April 2016

We hope you enjoy reading all the latest personal and professional updates from our BIC alumni. We post these updates once each year, usually during the spring semester. Henderson, GraigCraig Henderson (‘00) and his wife of six years, Samantha Henderson, APN, are expecting their second child, a daughter, on April 8, 2016.  Their son, Floyd Robert, will turn two also in April.  Craig continues to work as an attorney in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the area of personal injury and commercial litigation while Samantha works in the emergency room at several Las Vegas hospitals.

Dugan, BrandonBrandon Scott Dugan (’01) received his Psy.D. from the University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology in 2007. In that same year he married Angela Emerick, whom he met in graduate school. After completing his pre-doctoral internship in Evanston, Wyoming and then working in Hopkinsville, KY., Brandon settled in Mankato, MN where he works for a private practice community mental health center called Eunoia Family Resource Center, which is a National Health Service Corps loan repayment site. Brandon has two beautiful daughters, Abigail, 5, and Annabelle, 1.

Hayworth, John-PaulJohn-Paul Hayworth (’01) earned a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 2003.  He currently lives in Washington, D.C. and is now the Executive Director of the DC State Board of Education. He is currently in his first term of office as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in the Petworth Neighborhood. He is heavily involved in the community through mentorship programs, issues facing children, asylum seekers and LGBT Affairs. He is the former President of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, one of the oldest and largest men’s choruses in the country.

Holm, SamuelSamuel Holm (‘01) – After graduating from Baylor, Sam joined the Pine Cove resident staff team as the Crier Creek Director, serving from 2001 – 2011. God used Sam at Pine Cove to disciple thousands of college students and many fathers. While on staff, Sam received his Master’s of Divinity at Southwestern Theological Seminary where he focused on Biblical Hermeneutics. In 2006, Sam married Rebecca Konen and started a family. Five years later Sam moved to Dallas to become the teaching pastor at Park Cities Baptist, a church with over 11,000 members. God is using the Gospel through Park Cities to rescue people from cultural Christianity and help them to follow Jesus every day. Sam passionately believes that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only life-transforming message worth dying for. He is currently finishing work on his D.Min in Exegetical Preaching at Dallas Theological Seminary. Sam and his sweet wife, Rebecca, have two daughters, Anna and Ellie.

Sinclair, RobRob Sinclair (’01) and his wife Ann welcomed their first child on November 17, 2015, a little joker named Robert Killian who decided World Prematurity Day would be an appropriate time to show up 89 days before his due date! He spent 40 days in the NICU but came home two days after Christmas and is thriving now. He also feels that sleep is for the weak, so that’s cool. Rob was very happily transferred to the Communications Training section for the Anne Arundel County Police here in Maryland, and he now spends the majority of his hours working with new civilian hires as they begin careers as 911 call takers and police dispatchers. Rob and his family live in Annapolis with four cats and a serially-neglected fish, and life (and God) is good.

Thorpe, ElizabethElizabeth (Boyd) Thorpe (’01) went on to receive her M.A. in English and her PhD in Communication from Texas A&M University. She, her husband, and her son now live in Rochester, NY. She is an Assistant Professor at the College at Brockport (SUNY).  Her research focuses on the intersection of law, politics, and the rhetorical construction of American identity.  She has taught classes in protest, propaganda, freedom of speech, American political discourse, and argumentation.  She will sing the praises of the BIC to anyone who will listen.

Bennett, JulieJulie (Smith) Bennett (’03) wed Wesley Bennett on July 4, 2015. The couple, who live in Crosby, Texas, are excited to be welcoming their first child in June, 2016.

Crowson, CarrollCarroll Bonner Crowson (’03) and her husband Grady welcomed a son, Grady Jack Crowson, Jr., on August 13, 2015.  Carroll coordinates the tutoring program in Baylor’s Paul L. Foster Success Center.

Goldsberry, LaurenLauren Allaire Goldsberry (’05) has been married to her husband Bobby for 8 years. They welcomed their daughter, Madison, in September of 2014. She was born 14 weeks early and weighed only 1 lb. 6 oz, but today is a happy, healthy 18 month old. Lauren is working as a social worker with adults who have developmental disabilities in Austin, Texas.

Medlock, MarilynMarilyn Medlock (’05) – Since graduating from Baylor in 2005 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Marilyn spent seven years in California in graduate school at Stanford studying Bioengineering and working for a medical device company. Marilyn met her husband in grad school and three years ago they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana when he accepted an Assistant Professor position at Purdue University. Eighteen months ago they welcomed their daughter Clara to the world. Days now are spent working for Medtronic, another medical device company and running (for fun and after a toddler)!

Phillip Westbrook (‘06) runs a sound production company out of Dallas, TX and has worked on recent projects with clients such as AWOL Nation, 2 Time Grammy Award winning jazz group Snarky Puppy and providing location sound services for Real House Wives Of Dallas.  He also recently traveled to Cuba to record an album for Cuban band Rumi and to record the natural sounds of Havana Cuba.

Briscoe, MargaretMargaret (Allee) Briscoe (’07) married fellow Baylor Bear, Dr. Dolph Briscoe IV on March 7, 2015 in Austin, Texas. Margaret is currently the corporate communications manager for Sport Clips Haircuts, a Georgetown, Texas-based salon franchise company with more than 1,300 locations nationwide. Margaret and her husband currently reside in Austin.

Ray, KeishaKeisha Ray (‘07) – After graduating from Baylor with a B.A. in philosophy in ‘07, Keisha went to the University of Utah where she completed a Ph.D. in philosophy with a specialty in Bioethics in 2013. In Fall 2016 she will be a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Texas State University in the department of philosophy.  Keisha’s original research in bioethics has been published in books and journals and she has been teaching philosophy courses at the college level for eight years.

Ackerman, LauraLaura (Leskoven) Ackerman (’08) graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with an M.A. in Advertising, focusing on marketing strategy. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she is a proud Texpat and works in consulting at Kepler Group, a digital marketing agency. In October, 2015, she married Nick Ackerman, and the two live in Brooklyn with their tuxedo cat, Stevie Nicks.

McMullen, KatKat McMullen (’08) is a radio personality for Peace 107 in College Station. If you feel like tuning in from wherever you are, go to www.peace107.com. It’s not what she ever expected to do, and she isn’t doing anything very impressive, but life is still good! This year, she is trying to finally learn to read music via a “teach yourself piano” book, is making new friends, has become fascinated by camels, and is trying to get a children’s book published. She hopes you can make time for your dreams this year! Because, why not?

Zaire Adams (’09) is teaching English III and IV at South Hills HS in Fort Worth and in his second year of teaching. He completed a Master of Arts in Teaching with the University of Southern California in August 2012 and has been in the classroom in some capacity since then. He is certified for English, Social Studies, and ESL work. He is currently considering heading back to school in order to become a professor of something or other. He still does music under the moniker–Zaire Kariff and can be found on iTunes, Spotify and the like. He occasionally performs when he has time and has appeared at places like The Prophet Bar in Dallas.

Hunter Klein (‘10) has been practicing as an insurance trial lawyer since graduating from University of Houston Law Center in 2013, and practices both in Texas and Colorado. He has recently completed his first oral argument before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. He also co-wrote the briefing in the very first case in which a Federal Judge in Denver, Colorado held that marijuana was insurable and not excluded under an insurance policy as “contraband” under the Controlled Substances Act. He also got married at the end of February – which is easily what he is most proud of.

Natividad, RossRoss Natividad (’10) is a third-year student at William & Mary Law School. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review. After graduation, he will be clerking in the 23rd Judicial Circuit of Virginia (Roanoke).

Panneton, RaymondRaymond Panneton (‘10) continues to practice medical malpractice, medical device, and pharmaceutical litigation with the Talaska Law Firm, PLLC in Houston, Texas.  Mr. Panneton has been named one of Houston’s Top Lawyers by H Texas Magazine and a Best Attorney in America by Rue Ratings.  Ray also serves as the editor-in-chief of The Affiliate, a publication of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division.

Tiffany (Mason) Rose (’10) graduated with her MPH from Baylor in 2012 and graduated PA School at UNTHSC in 2015. Tiffany and her husband have returned to Waco. She is now working as a Physician Assistant at Baylor Scott and White’s OBGYN clinic at Hillcrest. She is also an adjunct lecturer at Baylor University in the HHPR department.

Brooke Worcester (’10) earned a J.D. from Michigan State University in May 2013. Preferring sun to snow, Brooke returned to her native Arizona in the fall of 2013 and is now licensed to practice law in Texas and Arizona. She is employed as a trial attorney in the child support division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and is a second year Baylor football season ticket holder.

Cameron Lagrone (‘12) has been living in Austin since graduation, and enjoying the sun and tacos. She will graduate from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT-Austin with a Master of Public Affairs in August, and will work as an Auditor at the City of Austin Office of the City Auditor.

Bonnie Cheng (’14) – Currently working as an assistant event planner, Bonnie is completing a Master’s of Management in Library and Information Science from University of Southern California and is set to graduate May 2016. While now a Trojan, she’s always a Baylor BICer at heart. Sic’ Em BIC!
