Dr. Herbert Tucker (English, University of Virginia) will present “Robert Browning’s Struggle with Conflict.” This talk will consist of a discussion of Robert Browning’s vision of human conflict and freedom. Topics include: How Browning’s dramatic monologue form developed by resisting popular Victorian notions of conflict and its resolution; Browning’s vision of human freedom and conflict, as it emerges in his dramatic monologues; and the relevance of Browning’s poems, and poetry more broadly, to our own understanding and practice of reconciliation.
