January 12 Team Dinner @ Lalibela

The first week of the semester and everyone took time to come to a team meeting at a local Ethiopian restaurant. There are many forms to fill out, issues to discuss, handouts to read. Topics ranged from what to drink, what to wear, how to pack and prayer. Mosquito nets to electricity adaptors life will be different from our usual routine.

The work we do will challenge and stretch our abilities. We will be tired and out of our element. The people we see will have stories unlike any we have heard and our ability to respond will feel, at times, inadequate. Caring for each other and ourselves will enable us to do the work that God would have us do. We will rest and encourage our team members to take a break. We will continually lift the team, the mission, our partners and those we serve up in prayer.

Our trip is rapidly approaching and our plans our coming together.  I am thrilled by the opportunity that the trip presents and honored and blessed to have so many great team members.

FNP Africa Capstone Trip Letter

The Africa Capstone in March of 2009 is an annual trip for the Family Nurse Practitioner Students who will graduate in May. The students will travel to areas of great poverty to help the outreach of resident missionaries. We will not only provide hands on health care but we will work to provide education to improve health for the long run after the team has returned to the United States. This year the team will work in rural Ethiopia and Malawi. The need for this kind of trip is so great and every contribution is appreciated. Each of the students must raise the cost of their travel, food, lodging, visas and a share of the team expenses such as malaria tests, medicines and first aid supplies.  Your gift not only helps the most needy of God’s children but it also provides important experience in the mission field for future short and long term missionaries. We have an ongoing fund to help make this trip more affordable for students who will have to pay their own way to work in the mission field.

All contributions are tax deductible. Checks can be written to Baylor University and with ‘FNP mission’ on the memo line. These can be mailed to the Louise Herrington School of Nursing, Attention Lori Spies, 3700 Worth Street, Dallas, Texas, 75246.

We also now have a way to receive on-line gifts. This is a secure site and of course it is still tax deductible. To make a donation go to this web site  https://www.baylor.edu/give/index.php?id=49837&a=2&c=850    Click on “Missionary Family Nurse Practitioner Program”. I hope you will pass this along to friends and family. Thank you for helping us to show God’s love to those in need around the globe.

In Christ,Lori A. Spies
