DMV

The University of Maryland, College Park  is only a 20 minute drive from my house. Its a big public university with around 26,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate students and was founded in 1856. The school is ranked as #62 out of all national universities. Most of my friends from high school go there, so I also spend some time there when I go home and visit my friends. Greek life is very popular there too, all my friends joined sororities and fraternities, but overall Its a really fun school and Maryland has a lot of pride for its Terps!

The University of Maryland has 17 male and female varsity sports, under NCAA Division 1 competitions, their team name is the Terrapins, which is a small turtle.  (if you ask me that is not a very intimidating mascot). Mens Basketball is the most popular sport at this school. But I am still a big fan of Baylor Football!

My family is a big fan of the Orioles! My mom, brother, and me used to go to a lot of their games together when we where younger.

The Capital of Maryland:

Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, and it is situated on the Chesapeake Bay. Its great for tourism due to its immense history charming town. There are so many fun things to do in this town. My family has a house right on the water which just a short drive away or boat ride away from Downtown Annapolis. We often spend the summers there on our boat, spending the days on the water with our friends. We waterski, jetski, water tubing, and it is always fun. At night we go downtown, it is a great place for people over 21 to hangout because it is a college town with many bars. We usually go to dinner and sit by the water at night while listening to live music. My favorite part of this town is the friendly people, everyone is so nice and its a really beautiful place.

Naval Academy:

The Naval Academy was found as a Naval School in 1845 and now it educated officers for commissioning into the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. The entire campus is a National Historic Landmark with many memorials. It is located right in downtown Annapolis, and if you visit this area you will see many of the students walking around in their uniforms. The Naval Academy also has many athletic teams, just as any other major university, such as football, wrestling, baseball, gymnastics, basketball, and many more.

Food:

The most popular store in all of downtown Annapolis is, arguably, Annapolis Penguin Ice Cream Company. This Ice Cream store serves “super-premium gourmet ice cream” and it is made right at the shop on a daily basis. They have been voted “Best of Annapolis” by their customers for 8 consecutive years.They are also known for their generous scoops size that will leave you more than satisfied. The best part of this store is the friendly employees and the wall of spoons. They cover the walls with plastic spoons that customers have drawn on and designed with sharpie. Me and my friends have a few of our spoons up there!

Newton’s Table

My favorite restaurant is Newtons Table, it is a short drive or a nice walk away from my house in Downtown Bethesda. I would recommend it to anyone who where to visit this area. It is a nice restaurant so its fun to dress up with your friends for a special occasion. I went to dinner here for my high school graduation dinner. My favorite thing on the menu is there tuna appetizer and the most amazing chocolate crunch dessert.

I have moved houses all over Maryland but currently I live in Chevy Chase but we are moving to Annapolis within the next few months. Chevy Chase and Bethesda share a downtown and it is a great place for kids. I love that town very much but I am also enjoying my time in Texas. Chevy Chase a short drive away from Virginia and an even shorter drive away from Washington D.C. (maybe even 5 minutes). Chevy Chase is like its own little city with a lot of office buildings and restaurants. My favorite thing to do is Chevy Chase is run on the Crescent Trail, which is a trail used by runners and bikers that goes all the way from Silver Spring, MD to Washington D.C. The biggest problem with my home town is the terrible traffic and the humid summers.

Maryland is one of the smallest states in terms of area, but also one of the most densely packed. It is also the wealthiest state in the country based on median household income. I live in Montgomery County in Chevy Chase. I think Maryland is a great place to live, there are city areas and more suburban area. Maryland is known for there Blue Crabs and Old Bay Seasoning. In fact, my drivers license actually has a picture of a blue crab on it. The Old Bay Seasoning is a famous blend of herbs and spices and is produced in Maryland, in the Chesapeake Bay area so it is often paired with the famous Blue Crabs. I have never eaten crab or shellfish but I have heard many Marylanders rave about it, especially in Annapolis, Maryland.

Virginia is bordered by Washington D.C. and Maryland so its not a far drive from my house at all. My favorite thing in Virginia shopping. Virginia has the best shopping mall, Tysons Corner. Tysons is the best mall because it is the largest in the DMV area with over 300 stores and services.

Virginia is also home of the Gold Cup Horse Races.These events and races are the largest outdoor social events in that state, and one of the most popular in the whole DMV area. I am on the Equestrian Team at Baylor University, and even though this type of riding is very different than what the way I ride, going to events like these are always fun and exciting.

Washington D.C. is 1 of the 12 cities in the United States that has teams for all of the four major professional men sports, and is home of one major professional women’s team.

D.C., The District of Columbia, is the Capital of the United States and it is just down the street from my house in Maryland. The state of Maryland and Virginia both donated land to create our nations capital. The city of Washington was named in honor of George Washington and was founded in 1791. Washington DC has many great monuments and other attractions that draw in tourists. There is the famous Cherry Blossom festival every spring when many people come and watch the beautiful trees bloom.

There is also the Smithsonian Museums, which is a world class attraction, contains 19 different museums and galleries. Most of the museums are located within walking distance of the National Mall, while the rest are located elsewhere in the city. A few of the different Smithsonian Museums are: The National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, National Museum of African Art, National Museum of American History, National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of Natural History, National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and of course the Smithsonian National Zoo.

Many of the most popular attractions are the national monuments and memorials. I have seen many of these because my middle school and high school took us on many school trips and it was only a short drive away. A few of the most famous memorials are: The Arlington National Cemetery, DC War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, African American Civil War Memorial, The Air Force Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial.
