Hello all!
My name is Lauren, I am a second year graduate student in the Museum Studies department. Here is a little information on myself: I am from San Antonio and graduated in 2010 with a degree in History and a minor in English from Texas A&M University- College Station.
I am taking Ethics, because there is so much more to the subject outside of the usual issues of repatriation, collections conundrums, and the like. For me, there is the actual representation of the items in context of the culture that created them and how that is reiterated to the public. How the long history and pervasiveness of both colonization and cultural imperialism affects how we represent and view items in a museum. How we can better manage to preserve cultural diversity around and recognize that we have the opportunity to accurately represent those that might have otherwise been pushed aside.
