Quick-start Guide to Setting Up the Blog

  • Once you have signed in, click on the Dashboard, where you will find all of the tools to change your password, user name, avatar, and blog settings (including appearance).
  •  To change the look of your blog, go to Appearance
  • Here you can change the Theme of your blog (the setup, color, design, etc.). You can also customize Widgets, which are the boxes on the right and/or left of the main column where you can display your calendar, archives, and links that amuse you. If your theme supports it, you can also change your Header – you can upload any picture that suits you.
  • You can also manage your Comments – clicking on it will allow you to see the comments on your blog.
  • To change the security setting (which I strongly recommend), go to Settings and click on Discussion. DEACTIVATE the boxes under “Before a comment appears” – you do NOT want those boxes checked unless you plan to monitor your blog constantly.
  • Under Settings you will also find Blog Avatar, which is an image you can upload and crop – it will appear when you comment on others’ blogs.
  • Also under Settings is a category called General, which allows you to change the title of your blog, the tagline, and the timezone (you want to find Mexico City). I recommend that you make the title and tagline as particular to your blog as possible.
  • Under Users is Your Profile, where you can change your username and password and avatar.

Once you are somewhat familiar with the blog, play around with the customizable options. Add links to your widgets to sites that you like, and make it as user-specific as you can, since that is part of the grade for the blog.
