About

My name is Donte Williams. I am a senior Accounting Major at Baylor University. I plan on graduating at the end of the Fall 2014 semester with Bachelors degrees in both Accounting and Real Estate. During my free time I enjoy playing team sports with friends and staying physically active. I believe that God’s wisdom is infinite, and I try to follow a friend’s example by starting each day by visiting Our Daily Bread to gain insight to His wisdom.

I was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 26, 1991. My father had the most significant influence on my life and is the reason I have been able to accomplish all I have so far in life. He worked hard to allow my family to live in decent suburban neighborhoods and keep me in good schools. He was a truck driver who, after gaining experience in the industry, set foot on an entrepreneurial adventure. He started his own trucking company with one diesel truck and a rented trailer. He shipped products across the 48 continuous states until I was about 14 years old, but despite his long periods of absence while working he would always make sure to dedicate time to his family.

My father contributed to my growth and development more than anyone else in my life. Whenever he was not working, he was always making an effort to teach me something. As soon as I was old enough to walk, he introduced me to the game of football. Through football, my father taught me the importance of teamwork, hard work, and competitiveness. Over the years I developed a passion for the sport, and I even began to find pleasure in playing basketball. Sports were the primary bonding activities for the two of us. Throughout my athletic career, my father coached me, not necessarily to play professional sports, but to shape me into a young man that always gives his best effort and takes pride in every activity he participates in. These characteristics are useful in becoming successful.

During the summer time, I would often accompany my father as he drove around the country. Under the pseudonym Poor Richard, Benjamin Franklin wrote, “A good example is the best sermon.” My father set a great example at all times. My trips with my father were a lot of fun, but I did a great deal of learning. While watching my father work, I began to idolize how observant and thorough he was. He closely monitored anything that affected his company and looked for any way to improve the quality and efficiency of his service. This attentiveness that my father possessed did not stop at business. He naturally gathered and analyzed information from any and everything he encountered. As a result, he was the type of person that seemed to know a little about everything.

Everyday, I try to use what my father taught me. Through his efforts I developed a preference for working with others, and I developed diligence, a competitive nature, and attention to detail. These qualities contribute to the development of my business competency and will contribute to my success in business upon graduation from Baylor University.

I come from a family of hard workers. My parents instilled a sense of the value of education in all of their children, including myself. My siblings and I all excelled throughout high school in academic as well as sports on our way to becoming Baylor Students.
