State Track Meet 2011

I ran track in high school and I really had a passion for it. I have competed in every relay, the 400 meter run, 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, triple jump and long jump.  My senior year our relay team qualified for the state track meet in the 4 X 400 meter relay.  Wylie has a strong history in this event, qualifying for the state meet nearly every year, but had never won the Texas State Championship. On the relay I ran with three of my very good friends. Katy Yarbrough had the baton first, Michelle Lytle, the third leg, and Nicole Mitchell, ran the anchor leg. I ran the second leg.  Our relay team was peaking at the right time and we won the race going away, with a time of 3:54, also a school record. It was a lot of hard work but it was all worth it winning that race and receiving that gold medal with my friends.

In memory of Spencer LaBrie

I had the privilege of going to high school and graduating with an amazing guy, Spencer Labrie. Spencer got into a fatal car accident Saturday, November 24th. Spencer and his passenger, Jillian Thomas both died on impact. This has impacted many people and is extremely hard for his many friends and family. Spencer had a positive impact on everyone he came in contact with.  Every time I saw Spencer he had a smile on his face, he just was great to be around and I am thankful he was my friend. He played baseball all throughout high school and received a baseball scholarship to Lubbock Christian University and played there for one year. Spencer was such a hard worker and excelled at everything he did.  He encouraged and uplifted his friends and teammates all the time. Spencer had a short but an amazing life. January 13, 1993-November 24, 2012.

Cheer Tryouts!

When I decided to go to Baylor I also had the dream of being on the cheer squad.  My senior year in high school I decided I was going to Waco to give it a shot, I was going to try out for the team!  I was so nervous for the Baylor cheer tryouts especially because I was not currently cheering. I only cheered my sophomore and junior year of high school.  My gymnastics training really helped me in the aspect of cheerleading so I was hopeful this could work out.  The tryout was during a busy weekend for me so I enlisted my dad to be my driver for the weekend.  I had to be in Waco Friday for the cheer clinic until 9PM, then we had to drive back to Abilene so I could be home Saturday for prom preparation (hair appointment of course!), then I had a great Sr. Prom Saturday night with all of my friends. Then it was an early Sunday morning with my driver to make the tryouts in Waco by 10AM.  Fun weekend and one I will always remember.

Delta Delta Delta

I am more than happy with my decision to be a part of a sorority. My older sister Ashley had a major influence in me rushing and pursuing the opportunity to be in Delta Delta Delta, which she was a member of during her time at Baylor. I was so excited on bid day to be voted into the Sorority of Delta Delta Delta. I could not be happier where I am today. I have made so many close friends in which I know I will stay close friends with throughout the years. Tridelta has a lot of traditions that I a good reputation that I enjoy being a part of and I really like being associated with the amazing girls who are member of the chapter. Tridelta has also been a top sorority with the highest GPA for a number of years and I like the pressure of continuing that success. Tridelta and Baylor have been the right fit for me.

Fright Night: Fiji & ΔΔΔ

Every year Fiji and ΔΔΔ pair up to host an event at the end of October, Fright Night.  Fright Night is a haunted house for Baylor students to come to during the weekend of Halloween. Fiji and Tridelta put in a lot of hours behind the scene that will never be recognized, it hard but it is fun.  The week before Fright Night is put on, most of the members of these two organizations to not get much sleep. The men of Fiji put in every hour possible and more to help out the women of Delta Delta Delta and together they put on a great show.

Baylor Bears vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

On Saturday, November 24th Baylor played in the fourth annual Farm Bureau Shootout Insurance Shootout at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas against Texas Tech.  This year’s game was definitely a nail-biter. Last year it was a competitive game but not nothing like this one.  This year we had a slow start and at halftime Tech had a one touchdown lead. Heading into the 4th quarter Tech had a three point lead at 28-31. The fourth quarter was a shootout (like the name of the game!) and the it ended in a tie 45-45, making the teams go into overtime. Baylor received the ball first and got the touchdown. Baylor fans, including me, were all excited, scared, ecstatic, nervous, and just hoping for the best, wanting it to end in our favor.  When Tech had their chance they went backwards fast with a holding penalty and ultimately were not able to convert on 4th down with an incomplete pass at the Baylor 20 ending the game 52-45. The Cowboy Stadium was filled with the loud roar of Baylor fans with such excitement and such a relief of excitement.
