Q: How safe is the Baylor campus?

A: The Baylor Police Department is committed to ensuring the safest campus possible. Most crimes reported to Baylor police involve property crimes. These crimes would include thefts, burglaries and criminal mischiefs. Crimes against persons such as assaults, robberies and sexual offenses are historically low.

Q: What does the Baylor Police Department do to ensure safety on campus?

A: Baylor police patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This patrol includes 7 marked patrol units along with a specialized bike patrol unit. The Baylor Police Department also monitors over 200 emergency call boxes located throughout the campus. These call boxes give individuals immediate contact with police dispatchers. Police dispatchers also monitor the weather through the National Weather Service. In addition, Baylor police are involved in numerous crime prevention and awareness programs conducted throughout the campus.

The Baylor University Police Department seeks your cooperation in keeping the Baylor University Campus safe and crime free. It is important at Baylor University to have a culture where people feel safe reporting wrongful conduct. *Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
*Always secure your personal property! All it takes is less than a second for someone to snatch it up and be gone with it.
*If you see anything that looks suspicious, report it immediately to the Police Department at ext. 2222.
*If you are the victim of a crime or an injury, report it immediately to the Police Department at ext. 2222. We work 24 hours a day, we don’t mind your call at any hour.

  • *Watch out for your neighbor and their property, as you would have them watch out for you.
  • *NEVER leave your residence hall room door unlocked!
  • *Don’t prop open any residence hall exterior door.
  • *Always know who is on the other side of your door before opening it.
  • *There is safety in numbers, never walk alone at night.
  • *Park your vehicle in well lighted areas.
  • *ALWAYS park your bike at a bike rack. Never secure it to a pole or walkway rail.
  • *Check the back seat of your car before getting inside.
  • *Don’t tamper with fire fighting equipment and smoke detectors. Your life and others may depend on it!
  • *No skateboarding or roller blading is allowed on Baylor University Campus.
  • *If you see anyone damaging University Property, report immediately to the Baylor Police Department at ext. 2222. The damage cost everyone!
  • *SLOW DOWN on campus. The campus streets are small and narrow.
