From Baylor Bear to World Series Champion

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 6 to win the 2020 Major League Baseball World Series title.   One of the key contributors to that World Series win also happens to be a Baylor Bear.

Max Muncy became the first Baylor player in 103 years to be crowned a World Series Champion.  The last, and only other, Baylor baseball player to hold that title was Dave Danforth (BB 1911) who, in 1917 was a member of the Chicago White Sox World Series champs (Danforth also won the World Series Championship in 1911 with the Philadelphia Athletics.)

Muncy had an excellent showing in the World Series hitting .318, with six RBIs, and one monster homerun.

A three-year letterwinner for Baylor from 2010-2012, Muncy was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 5th round in 2012, playing with the Athletics in 2015 and 2016.  He joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, making his first appearance in the World Series that same year when the Dodgers ultimately lost to the Boston Red Sox.

Sic ’em Max!
