NBMBAA Part 1

The National Black MBA career fair was much more than I could have ever expected. I know I’ve mentioned it previously but I wanted to dive in a bit deeper to reiterate how valuable of an experience it was. This may also be because I was able to compete in the case competition but it is definitely not something to miss.

I’ll start with the case competition. You get the case a couple of weeks before school and have a little under a month to work on it. The time crunch doesn’t happen at first but it comes quick. The reason is because you are more than likely finishing up your internship and getting ready for school to start. It is not until a few days prior that panic can set in. Besides management of the actual case, getting to stay in downtown Houston and be involved in the case competition activities was great. There are the multiple speakers, luncheons, and significant access to corporate executives. It puts you in front of so many influential people it provides a great pathway for potential employment.

For those looking at the team as a potential piece of their MBA experience, I could not recommend more. Specifically here at the conference, it gave me not only a conversation starter but also uniquely applicable experience to any job I was after. It was only enhanced by the sheer magnitude of opportunity available at the NBMBAA.
