Baylor Arts & Sciences magazine, Spring 2018

The Spring 2018 issue of Baylor Arts & Sciences magazine, the official magazine of the Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences, is now available online.

The Spring 2018 issue is a special issue devoted entirely to the topic of Engaged Learning — learning that typically takes place outside the classroom and in addition to traditional instruction — within the College of Arts & Sciences.

The introductory feature, “Circles in a Circle,” provides an overview of engaged learning and its importance at Baylor.

The remaining features deal with four areas of engaged learning — undergraduate research, study abroad, professional internships and major scholarships. These features include:

  • A Passion for Research, which looks at two new programs that are aiding student research;
  • Compassionate Crusaders, profiling Baylor students learning to fight tropical diseases;
  • In Search of History’s Mysteries, detailing how Baylor students are being taught the joy of discovery through research in campus archives;
  • Through New Eyes and New Lessons in an Old World, looks at Baylor’s study abroad programs through the eyes of both students and faculty sponsors;
  • Good Shepherds, about Baylor students using summer internships to help fight poverty;
  • Hands-on Healing, which shows how professional internships are giving Baylor students a jump on healthcare careers;
  • Life at the Museum, which describes the valuable experience Baylor museum studies students get each year through professional internships;
  • Going Global, a look at two recent Baylor winners of major international scholarships to study abroad; and
  • Meet John Hill, a profile of Baylor’s 2003 Truman Scholar and how winning that award has impacted his career.

    The Spring 2018 issue also features a First Person essay by Baylor alumna Dr. Jamie Gianoutsos on how engaged learning has enriched her life, and a story in Our Back Pages on Dr. A.J. Armstrong’s early study abroad trips at Baylor.

    And as always, the magazine contains a message from Arts & Sciences dean Dr. Lee Nordt, as well as news and notes about Arts & Sciences faculty and staff, students and alumni.
