Phi Beta Kappa initiates new Baylor members

Baylor University’s Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa initiated 26 new members during a ceremony Dec. 1, 2015, in the Hankamer Treasure Room of Armstrong Browning Library.

Fall 2015 initiates who attended the ceremony include:

  • Kara Blomquist, a senior language and linguistics major from Dallas
  • Caitlyn Brashears, a senior University Scholar from Amarillo
  • Jenna Cicardo, a senior neuroscience major from McKinney
  • Faith Danielson, a senior professional writing major from Kerrville
  • Christina Hagan, a senior biology major from Rochester, Minn.
  • Shelby Harden, a senior political science major from Waco
  • Stephanie Hoffman, a senior from Houston majoring in both English and German
  • Callie Hyde, a senior political science major from Waco
  • Kelly Kottmer, a senior majoring in both English and Great Texts
  • Anna McKay, a senior University Scholar from Fort Worth
  • Mallory Myers, a senior University Scholar from Aurora, Colo.
  • Soraya Naqvi, a senior biology major from Abilene
  • Ashley Nguyen, a senior biology major from Lake Jackson
  • Katie Niehus, a senior psychology major from Sherman
  • Shannon O’Day, a senior medical humanities major from Fair Oaks Ranch
  • Julia Paganis, a senior psychology major from Tulsa, Okla.
  • Jenna Press, a senior majoring in both professional writing and journalism
  • Amanda Stevens, a senior University Scholar from Katy
  • Dillon Stull, a senior University Scholar from Litchfield Park, Ariz.
  • Kristin Waites, a senior professional writing major from Rowlett
  • Sarah Yuen, a senior University Scholar from Lakeway

In addition, Dr. William H. Bellinger Jr., chair and professor of religion and The W. Marshall and Lulie Craig Chair in Bible, was recognized as an honorary Phi Beta Kappa initiate during the ceremony.

Phi Beta Kappa , founded on Dec. 5, 1776, at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., is the nation’s oldest scholastic honor society, and the first American society to have a Greek letter name. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship in the liberal arts and sciences.

The Baylor University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, Zeta of Texas, was chartered in 1976 and is one of only eleven chapters in Texas. Baylor’s Zeta Chapter now lists more than 1,800 living members.

    Would love to see some STEM folks in the photo.

    Maybe there is a grain of truth that those fields are more demanding; hence, GPAS are not as spectacular.
