Baylor students win apparel design contest

Four apparel design students from Baylor’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences were recently recognized for their talents at a prestigious national gathering.

The annual Dallas Career Day competition that was held in April 13 is the longest-running and largest design career event of its kind in the United States. Student designers from 40 schools in 12 states entered some 500 designs, with 230 garments showcased on the runway. About 1,200 students and educators attended the big fashion show that is part of the event. Only 18 percent of the submitted garments were selected for the show, and the talented students who designed those winning garments received awards and consideration for more than $30,000 in scholarships.

Four Baylor students earned top recognition at Career Day — as pictured left to right in the photo above, they are senior Kasidy Kersey, senior Kaylyn Smith, junior Hannah Maynard and senior Ivonne Gonzalez. All are majoring in apparel design and product development.

In addition, Kaylyn has been selected as one of only six designers to compete in a national contest sponsored by Outdoor Retailer. There’s more information about the OR contest here.

Kudos to these four young ladies and to all the great work being done by apparel design students in the Baylor College of Arts & Sciences.

What a wonderful accomplishment for these 4 beautiful young ladies. It comes as no surprise that Kasidy Kersey AKA “Pretty Princess Kasidy” would be in the top 4. She is in the top 4 in my life as well!

We love you and love watching you rise to the top and become the STAR we know you are.
