Prospective Students

What to expect on your audition day

Students attending Friday auditions should expect to be on campus from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., while students attending Saturday auditions should expect to be on campus from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Detailed audition information will be sent via email approximately two weeks prior to the audition date.

Attending an audition day is more than just the audition. On audition days, prospective students and their parents have several opportunities to learn more about Baylor University and the School of Music. Guests from Financial Aid and Campus Life give presentations and answer questions regarding scholarships and living on campus. Students and parents also have an opportunity to hear from the Dean of the School of Music, listen to current student performers, meet faculty in their areas, and attend information meetings on Music Education and Church Music.

Memorization is not required. We prefer to hear auditions without piano accompaniment, and we request that candidates not perform any region/all-state etudes.

In addition to all individual instrument requirements, please upload the following with your Request to Audition Form:

• Two letters of recommendation (band director, private teacher)

• A one-page resume including musical experience (e.g., awards earned, All-Region/Area/State placements, school ensemble involvement, UIL Solo and Ensemble involvement, church-related performing experience, etc.) as well as repertoire (e.g., solos performed and etudes studied).

• A short essay expressing your long-term musical goals and your reasons for wanting to study in the Baylor School of Music.

• Writing sample (graduates only)
