Media Project Update: November 19, 2013

This semester we have a group media project and my partner, Katie Scott, and I have been looking into how the Affordable Care Act has been covered in the media. The Affordable Care Act is also well known as Obamacare and through out the semester it has certainly had its’ ups and downs. Most notably was when Obamacare was officially launched on Oct. 1 there were glitches in the website, HealthCare.gov . There were reported problems that people were unable to log into the website and once on the website many were unable to sign up for health insurance plans available under the Affordable Care Act. Because of these issues in the website, many Americans have disapproved of Obama and the democratic party and the way they are handling things. However, during a news conference on Nov. 14, Obama took full responsibility for the glitches in the system and ensured Americans that they are fixing the issues and that affordable healthcare will still become available for everyone. Recently in the news, it has been noted that the Obama administration had a private consulting firm come in and evaluate the system before its’ launch on Oct.1. In a disclosed document the consulting firm believed it to be risky for Obamacare to be launched because there were many flaws that needed to be worked through first. But Obama’s administration kept with their original plan and launched the system and its’ flaws.
