Today’s media outlet from The New York Times will cover the President’s decision on the attack on Syria. I evaluated this article on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. The outlet is describing how Senator John McCain, is backing President Obama’s decision on the attack of Syria. This is a very huge news source because Senator McCain is one of the biggest critics of President Obama. He agrees with his decision on a ‘limited’ basis, seeing only if President Obama arms the Syrian Rebels correctly.
Senator McCain decision to back President Obama was largely due to the meeting that included Senator Lindsey Graham. She informed Senator McCain that the first wave of training went very well with the Syrian rebels. The Syrian rebels are being trained by the C.I.A, and have successfully snuck into Syria without any opposition. Senator McCain said, “President Obama did not specifically say what weapons would be used in the attack, but they are exploring all options.” It’s a major deal that people are backing President Obama so intently because, other high officials of both parties agree, that an attack is the main option. It’s quite a surprise to see two oppositions agree on a major decision.
The news article is adamant that, although the President is getting a lot of support from Republicans, it is the other countries that will force the decision. Secretary of State, John Kerry said, “The United States will not go it alone.” They want to see support from countries such as: France, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and The United Arab Emirates, among others. It will be interesting to watch over the next month or two to see how the hearings go.
I think this media outlet appeals to a very large based audience. There are families of the Syrian Rebels that would want to read this article, also the countries that want to back the U.S. in the attack. The families of the C.I.A. would want to read this because their family members are the ones that are training the rebels. It’s a very wide based audience because it is bringing many countries together on a very serious subject. This media outlet did appeal to me, I have recently started to follow up on the subject of Syria and believe that an attack is needed, and the U.S. should support any country, big or small.
