Hello!

Hey there my name is A.J. Ortiz and I’m a senior at Baylor University majoring in M.I.S. (Management Information Systems). This is going to be my first blog ever and despite it being for my Writing for Media Markets, I’m looking forward to it. Now this blog is going to be about the news, but I’m not just going to be relaying stories and headlines from other news sources. I will be evaluating the news source, content, and other aspects of how the news was delivered.

The news that I like to follow and attempt to keep up with generally falls into World News and Tech news. I also tend to follow any big stories that are going on locally, statewide, or nationally as well, but not as often as World and Tech News. Currently, I get my news almost exclusively from online sources considering I don’t have cable. The sources range from Wired, CNN, CNET, The WSJ, NYT, Gizmodo, IGN, T-3 (a British Tech News site), The Next Web, Twitter, and any shows that I can watch online like The Daily Show & The Colbert Report. I feel that the news I get from these sources pretty much entirely covers my interest of what’s happening in the world, and what’s going on in the world of technology.

Also compared to my classmates, I seem to be the only one who reads tech news on a semi-regularly basis, and the only one who doesn’t really follow sports news. I’m not really surprised by this though, because the only time I get sports news is when I eat in one of the dining halls that has Sport’s Center on, or am watching a game at a friend’s house. Also I am a bit of a nerd and knowing what’s going to come out next or in development in the tech world is rather interesting to me.

Hopefully by doing this blog it will expand my news sources and keep me up to date with the news as well.

Till next time,

A.J. Ortiz
