Time

This week, I used Time Magazine’s website, time.com, to review the major news stories that have unfolded over the last 7 days.  While it was certainly a big week in the news, I will detail the three I found most interesting in reverse chronological order.

First, we have the death of Jerry Bus.  The longtime owner of the Los Angeles Lakers past away just this morning, due to complications from cancer.  He was 80. A child of the Great Depression, Buss worked his way through school to the highest level, earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry by 24.  Science wasn’t his calling however, and he started investing in real estate in the late 50s.  20 years later, he bought the Lakers, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Inglewood Forum for $67 million.  Over the next 35 years, Jerry Buss would win an unprecedented 10 NBA championships in his lifetime.  His children will likely takeover the team.

My second story comes from the President’s vacation to Florida this weekend.  There he met with world renowned golf instructor Butch Harmon, for a Saturday filled with lessons.  Apparently the preparation paid off as the President teed it up with Tiger Woods at the Floridian Golf and Yacht Club just north of Palm Beach Gardens.  Joining the group was the club owner, Jim Crane.  Mr. Crane is also the new owner of the Houston Astros, whom he bought from Baylor mega-donor Drayton McLane.

Finally comes the absolutely crazy story about the “Blade Runner” killing his beautiful model girlfriend.   While currently awaiting a bond hearing, Oscar Pistorius is being help for “pre-meditated murder” in the death of Reeva Steenkamp.  Reporters are frantically trying to piece together this very odd case.  Mr. Pistorius became an international superstar after he became the first double amputee to ever compete in the Olympic Games.  Known for his blade-like prosthetics, “Blade-Runner” ran into the hearts of everyone around the world.  That all changed Valentine’s Day, when news broke of his girlfriend’s death.  Questions still surround the case as to whether it was murder or if Mr. Pistorius accidently mistook his girlfriend for an intruder.
