Performance Task

For this task, you are expected reflect on the information that you learned about suffrage by choosing one of the following: two – voice poem, illustration, or an essay. Below you will find the instructions for each performance task option. You are expected to pick ONE performance task and indicate which performance task you choose by telling your teacher. You will be allowed to work alone or with ONE partner.

Performance Task One: Two – Voice Poem

Two-voice poetry is written for two people to perform. The poetry usually has two columns – one for each person who is reading the poem. Each person reading the poem reads the text in one of the columns. Sometimes, the poet wants the two readers to say something at the same time, so the poet writes the words on the same line in each column (click here to see and example). These poems often sound like a dialogue for two people (click here to watch an example).

For your project you and your partner will choose to write about 2 of the 3 groups that you have learned about (African American, women, or 18 year old suffrage).

Some key points that must be included are:

____ The Amendments that came with each group

____ An explanation for how each side felt (i.e. were they suppressed by inferior white men? How did they combat their suppression? Who helped them? etc.)

____ Explain how others who were already given the right to vote expected those fighting for their right to vote to act.

____ Include at least TWO dates

Performance Task Two: Illustration

For this project, you are expected to illustrate suffrage. This can be done in many ways such as drawing, using pictures to make a collage, etc. You can pick one to three groups to illustrate on your paper. However, you must include everything from the list below.

____ The Amendments that came with the group(s) that you are illustrating

____ An explanation for how the group that you are illustrating felt

____ An explanation for how they fought for their right to vote.

____ Include at least TWO dates

____ Creativity

____ At least FIVE colors

 Performance Task Three: Essay (for this task you must work alone)

For this project, you will be expected to write a 2-3 page paper that will compare and contrast 2 out of the 3 groups that you learned about. You will be expected to complete the following:

____ The Amendments that came with each group in which you choose to write about

____ Include at least TWO dates

____ Compare and contrast how each group dealt with not being given the right to vote.

____ Explain how others who were already given the right to vote expected those fighting for their right to vote to act.

____ Compare and contrast the results of the actions that each group took when fighting for suffrage.
