Performance Task

After reviewing the materials available through this site, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate their historical understanding in one of three ways.

1.)  Interview Questions

  • Create eight interview questions you would ask survivors of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (There shouldn’t be any yes/no questions)
  • Then try to answer the questions you create as if you were a survivor (use ideas seen in interviews on this site)
  • Each answer should be in at least three complete sentences

2.)  Essay

  • Using the documents that you completed for homework and your knowledge of history, write a well-organized essay in which you:
  • Discuss the different perspectives on the U.S. decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
  • Evaluate the moral implications of the decision. Was the decision justified?
  • Requirements/format: 1,000 word minimum; 12 point Times New Roman font; double spaced.

3.)  Editorial Cartoon

  • You will create an editorial cartoon depicting events of the dropping of the atomic bombs
  • Cartoons must be appropriate. (No Racial Slurs)
  • Content should express the viewpoint of either an American for the use of the atomic bomb or someone against it, whether it be an American citizen, scientist, or victim of the bombs
  • Write a paragraph analyzing your own cartoon
