Among local leader and former Texas Collection director Guy Bryan Harrison, Jr.’s many community activities, one of his favorites was his involvement with the local Boy Scouts of America troops in Waco and McLennan County. This image is from a Scout archery tournament in 1926, when he was a Scout in Waco’s Troop 1. You’ll find this item in the Guy Bryan Harrison, Jr. papers, Accession #46, box 56, folder 3, at The Texas Collection, Baylor University.

In the second edition of her work, Texas Haunted Forts, author Elaine Coleman recounts the history of frontier forts in Texas built throughout the centuries from the creation of New Spain to the present-day. Coleman describes how historical events including battles, massacres, and raids have shaped Texans’ ghostly lore.

Chet Southworth’s latest book, Ghosts of Bell County, Texas, examines some of the more popular ghost stories emanating from local towns such as Killeen, Belton, and Temple.  To help the casual reader along, Southworth describes in great detail the Seven Laws of Paranormal Forces, the various types of ghosts, signs of paranormal activity, and the instruments paranormal groups use to monitor spectral activity.
