Summer School for Faculty [08/11/2015]

Learning doesn’t stop in the summer — not for Baylor School of Education faculty. While many were teaching, researching, writing and traveling, two SOE faculty members also attended Baylor’s Summer Faculty Institute.

Tis the Season to Give [11/25/2014]

-CostaRicaGive-650wThis spring, the Baylor School of Education (SOE), through its annual Costa Rica Spring Break Service Trip, plans to bring a “library full of books” to the Santa Elena School in San Jose, Costa Rica. Dr. Randy Wood, professor in the SOE’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction, organizes the spring break trip each year and has been working closely with partners in the Waco community to help fund the project.

The overall goal is to raise $14,000 by Dec. 19. The money will be used to purchase, package and ship the library books through Follett to the Sana Elena School. Wood, along with SOE professor of Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Trena Wilkerson and 25 Baylor students, will distribute the books during their weeklong service trip beginning March 6, 2015. Private School Teachers and Administrators Gather at Baylor [7/11/14]

TPSA-Turner-ThumbnailFrom an inspirational message by a state legislator to hands-on curriculum training, the annual Texas Private Schools Conference hosted at the Baylor School of Education on July 9 had a lot to offer. Rep. Scott Turner of Rockwall shared his personal life story, a journey that led him through playing in the NFL to his current role as an elected Texas state representative from Rockwall.

“Teachers and coaches are my heroes,” Turner said, referring to the impact of educational leaders in his life. “As teachers, the words you speak to young people can last a lifetime,” he said. “Let them be encouraging, edifying, uplifting and honest. Baylor SOE to Host Statewide Conference for Private and Independent Schools [7/8/14]

__LogoThumbnailFor the second year, Baylor University School of Education (SOE) and the Texas Private Schools Association (TPSA) are jointly sponsoring a statewide conference for administrators and teachers in private and independent schools. The conference will be on Wednesday, July 9, in Baylor’s Marrs McLean Science building, the home of the SOE.

Dr. Randy M. Wood, director of the SOE’s Center for Christian Education, said the one-day conference is strategically scheduled in midsummer “to allow administrators and teachers to come with an open mind and go away with a mind full of new ideas.” The conference also provides inservice training opportunity for the educators.
