Internal funding reminder: Collaborative Faculty Research Investment Program

One of the newest grant programs offered by the OVPR gives Baylor faculty a chance to collaborate with colleagues at other area institutions on biomedical research aimed at developing treatments for conditions that impact people around the world.

The Collaborative Faculty Research Investment Program (CFRIP) is funded by the OVPR and counterpart offices at the Baylor College of Medicine, Baylor Health Care System and Baylor Scott & White Health.  The program awards research grants to teams of faculty from two or more participating institutions with the goal of leveraging complementary research capabilities to help the partnerships compete for external research funding.

Prospective investigators may request up to $25,000 in funding from each participating institution.  Proposals are due at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 for projects to be performed during the 2016 fiscal year (specific project dates may vary based on the fiscal years of the participating institutions).

If you are interested in applying, contact the Scott & White Healthcare Office of Academic Research Development (OARD) to request an application.

Internal grant call for proposals: University Research Committee announces special fall competition

The University Research Committee will accept proposals this fall for a second round of FY 2015 funding. Proposals may be submitted in either the small (up to $4,500) or mid-range (up to $7,500) categories for projects to be completed by the end of FY 2015 fiscal year (May 31, 2015).  Fall URC funding is offered at the discretion of the URC committee and may or may not be offered in subsequent years.

All standard URC grant guidelines will apply to the fall round, including the leveraging requirement for mid-range grants and the per-investigator limit of four URC awards or $10,000 of total URC funding in a five-year period.  Additionally, faculty who have already received FY 2015 funding from the URC are ineligible to apply for the fall round. Faculty who applied for funding but were declined are encouraged to revise their proposals and consider re-submission.

The deadline to apply for fall URC grants is Oct. 22, 2014 at noon.  To be considered for funding, proposals must be complete by the deadline, including electronic routing and approval from the investigator’s chair and dean.  The anticipated start date for funded proposals is Dec. 15, 2014.  Funds from this round must be expended by May 31, 2015.

Internal funding announcement: OVPR Postdoctoral Fellowship

This fall, the OVPR  will accept applications for its postdoctoral fellowship program.  The program is intended to build on Baylor faculty members’ existing research strengths by providing funding for 12-month postdoctoral research fellowship positions. The positions carry minimal teaching responsibility with the intent that most of the fellows’ time and effort be spent helping faculty enhance and expand their research.

The postdoctoral positions are initially awarded for one year with a second year extension available for fellows who are successful. Fellowships are competitively awarded and all Ph.D.-granting departments are eligible to apply. Preference is given to proposals from research clusters (either within or across departments and colleges/schools) that allow the fellowship to be shared by two or more faculty members.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at 12:00 noon; more information and application instructions are available on the OVPR website.  Contact Blake Thomas at 710-3153 with questions about the program.
