Research opportunities for faculty and doctoral students at DOE’s Jefferson Lab


Jefferson Science Associates, LLC has announced two funding programs to support temporary research appointments for graduate students and faculty members at the Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in Newport News, Virgina.

For faculty: Sabbatical and Research Leave Support

The Sabbatical and Research Leave Support program provides funding for faculty to conduct full-time research at Jefferson Lab for a period of up to nine months. Applications are due by March 31, 2016. Click here to learn more about the program and application processes.

For graduate students: Graduate Fellowship Program

The Graduate Fellowship Program provides opportunities for doctoral students to work alongside Jefferson Lab researchers on projects related to the lab’s mission. Applications are due by Feb. 29, 2016. Click here for more information on the program and its application procedure.

Funding opportunity: Sloan Research Fellowships for early-career scientists

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will soon begin accepting applications for their annual Sloan Research Fellowships program. Each year, the foundation awards 126 two-year fellowships for early-career scientists and scholars who show exceptional promise in the fields of chemistry, computational & evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, ocean sciences and physics.

The application deadline is Sept. 16, 2013. More information is available on the Sloan Foundation website.

Internal funding announcement: OVPR Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The OVPR will accept proposals this fall for the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.  The program provides approved departments with support for postdoctoral positions intended to enhance and expand the research capacity of current Baylor faculty members.

Applications may be submitted by the chair of any Ph.D.-granting department.  Preference is given to collaborative proposals which allow a single postdoctoral position to be shared by faculty in multiple departments or colleges/schools.

Initial awards are made for a 12-month appointment (June-May), with a second year of funding possible for successful fellows.
