Present Your PhD: Intern

Job Description

Present Your PhD (PyPhD) is a STEM-focused outreach group at Baylor with two fundamental goals: (1) connect the community with the research being done on campus and (2) improve translatable communication skills for early career researchers. We are seeking an intern to design and launch creative social media posts, assist with designing and writing training curriculum, and write features either in a social media or blog setting. This unpaid position will also involve the creation of innovative marketing materials for PyPhD events. We are seeking an intern with excellent writing and design skills, with an eye for growth opportunities and creative solutions. PyPhD is a growing organization and this position is flexible to meet the needs of the hired individual(s) and the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Interview members and/or attend events to write feature stories for marketing purposes
  • Identify, develop, and implement appropriate marketing strategies to engage prospective members and universities
  • Write and design content (flyers, brochures, videos, photos, graphic designs, web copy) that will be used to market prospective members, collaborators, and universities
  • Create marketing content and post at least once a week on social media platform(s) to increase awareness of Present Your PhD
  • Generate new ideas for how to improve the social media sites and original content
  • Meet at least once every two weeks with internship supervisor (Director of Logistics) to workshop marketing materials
  • Actively seek opportunities for growth and take leadership on implementing at least one new opportunity
  • Communicate regularly with internship supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent writing abilities and research skills
  • Strong document design skills and experience with InDesign or other equivalent design programs
  • Experience interviewing and writing profiles
  • Strategic, creative user of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter for marketing purposes
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and professional
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, and dependable
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Experience with video/audio editing, photography, and Photoshop and experience with technical writing are a bonus
