What Our Students Have Said

It’s hard to comprehend just how much this class has taught me. It hasn’t been like any other type of learning I’ve had in school. This type of learning is the kind that has been ingrained into how I view and think about life.  I don’t think that I was in the ‘wrong’ mindset of how I viewed giving before this semester, but there is no doubt that I view and think about the concept in a much better way now than I did before.  I am a better person since I have taken this course.

Blessed does not even begin to describe it. I am beyond grateful to have spent a semester exploring Waco and myself alongside the most intelligent, inspiring and encouraging peers. I was challenged to become a better team player, classmate, friend, and community member. Thankfully, the journey doesn’t end here. I am now equipped and ready to share my knowledge and passion for philanthropy.

Learning to be excellent is best achieved through practice and habituation. This concept extends to the field of philanthropy. I had never experienced the true joy of giving—the way that one can become truly invested in a project—until I was blessed to be a part of [this philanthropy course].

Philanthropy and the Public Good has probably been to most important class I have taken at Baylor. I came into this class, believing that I had my own skills and knowledge to contribute and affect the world philanthropy. While this was partially true, I have been more affected and changed by this course experience than I ever anticipated. My view of philanthropy, giving, and sharing with others has been changed for the better.

The Philanthropy Lab has been a transformational experience in shaping my view of giving. Through our work in this class, I began to see the world in a whole new way. . . . I can’t wait to be a part of this lifelong journey of generosity, and I will be forever grateful for the Philanthropy Lab and the impact it has had on my life.

I have been inspired– inspired to go beyond what I would normally be. Inspired to be someone who I better than I am. This course gifted me with so much, enough that I feel prepared to steward my resources with others.

Jeremiah 6:16 says, ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for you souls.’ This semester showed me these ancient paths. A standard to living that is righteous and inspiring. The leaders offered insights into the places the road gets tricky or where the path is obscured. I’ve been offered the help of a guide, becoming the fool if I ignore their help. I want to work as someone who serves, living my life with the people being served.

I have learned a tremendous amount about philanthropy, but what I want to take away most is that no matter how much money I have, whether little or much, I can always give. Because of the love of Christ, I am free to give back to others. Through giving I can build relationships, and shine the light of Christ. Through giving I can steward not just my money but my talents and other resources. Through giving I can inspire others to give. And through giving I can make a difference.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to take this course! I have gotten more out of it than I ever imagined. I have learned so much about the art of philanthropy, about Waco, and about myself. This has been without a doubt the most rewarding class I have taken during my four years at Baylor.

I am confident that no matter where I go or whom I give to, I will always look back on this class as the pivotal moment of my Baylor career.  I am forever grateful.
