Search Interface Changes

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals

This resource used to be available from FirstSearch and is now available from EBSCOhost.

This database surveys U.S. and foreign journals. The index covers international, scholarly and popular periodical literature, including publications of professional associations, U.S. state and regional periodicals, and major serial publications on the architecture and design of Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia. This database also provides citation records for architects’ obituaries.

Last year, EBSCO Publishing bought HW Wilson.  EBSCO is in the process of migrating all Wilson databases to the EBSCOhost platform.  The following Wilson databases acquired by the Baylor University Libraries have been moved to the EBSCOhost platform:

The remaining Wilson databases should be migrated to the EBSCOhost platform before the end of February 2012, and include the following resources acquired by the Baylor University Libraries:

  • Children’s Core Collection
  • Fiction Core Collection
  • Middle and Junior High Core Collection
  • Public Library Core Collection Nonfiction
  • Senior High Core Collection

Bowker’s Books in Print

Bowker’s Books in Print is now using a new search interface.

The following resources are no longer available from the OCLC FirstSearch service.  We have moved PAIS to ProQuest and the other 4 to EBSCOhost.

Over the years, ProQuest has acquired the companies, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) and Chadwyck Healey.  For the past year, ProQuest has been developing a new search interface which they want to apply to all of their databases as well as those acquired from CSA and Chadwyck Healey.  The migration to the new interface has been in place for several months, and the Baylor University Libraries have now switched to the new ProQuest interface for the following resources:

As ProQuest continues to migrate their family of resources into the new interface, we will make the appropriate changes.

Gale Biography in Context

Gale Biography in Context is a title change for Biography Resource Center.

EBSCOhost eBook Collection (Preview)

Last year, the NetLibrary e-book service was obtained by EBSCOhost. EBSCOhost is in the process of moving the NetLibrary books from the NetLibrary platform, into the EBSCOhost platform, and adding more functionality through that platform. This is preview access to this new NetLibrary interface.

Some notes about the use of this preview:

  • Any changes to Baylor’s current netLibrary collection will not be reflected within the preview environment.
  • To make use of the personalization options available, you have to create a new and unique account in the EBSCOhost eBook Collection during the preview period. Information stored, including username, password and eBook information, will be deleted once the preview ends (around June 15, 2011).
  • Activity in this preview environment will not impact/affect our current live NetLibrary account, e.g., checkouts in the preview environment will not count as checkouts in the live NetLibrary environment.

Trial expires: Thursday, July 31, 2011

OECD iLibrary (Online)

SourceOECD has been upgraded it’s interface and changed its name to OECD iLibrary.  It is a cross-searchable online library containing e-books, MS Excel tables, statistical datasets and working papers of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

MLA Directory of Periodicals

With the switch of the MLA International Bibliography to a different interface, the MLA Directory of Periodicals is also now accessible on this new platform.

NOTE: Due to popular demand, we have switched back to the EBSCOhost version of the MLA Directory of Periodicals.

MLA International Bibliography

This resource was on trial and has been purchased by the Baylor Libraries.  The decision was made to drop the EBSCOhost version of the MLA International Bibliography primarily because this version provides the ability to search both the MLA and ABELL simultaneously.

NOTE: Due to popular demand, we have switched back to the EBSCOhost version of the MLA International Bibliography.
