American Doctoral Dissertations

A digital version of  the only comprehensive record of dissertations accepted by U.S. universities during coverage dates. Includes those universities that did not send their dissertations to UMI.  Taken from the print index, Doctoral Dissertations Accepted by American Universities 1933-1955 and provides full page images of the original print index. May be searched by author, title, subject and university.  Beware that when Ebsco says PDF full text it is not full text of the dissertation but full text of the entry in Doctoral Dissertations Accepted by American Universities which is only a brief bibliographic record.

ProQuest Research Companion

Developed by writing instructors and librarians, this resource consists of nine Learning Modules and seven interactive tools – designed to automate the basic parts of the research process. The multimedia-based learning modules engage students to think more critically and creatively about their research, while other interactive tools help students navigate through the research process more quickly to spend more time on the research that interests them most. ProQuest Research Companion adapts to all devices –- laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

SpeechBITE

Includes published reports that provide empirical data regarding the effectiveness of one or more interventions. To be included in the database, the papers are from peer-reviewed scientific journals; the populations treated are representative and have or are at risk for a communication disorder; the treatment is currently part of or could become part of speech pathology practice; and the trial includes the evaluation of at least one intervention using empirical data regarding the efficacy. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non randomized controlled trials (NRCTs) are rated using the PEDro-P scale and single case experimental designs (SCEDs) are rated with the RoBiN-T scale by two independent raters. Case series and systematic reviews are not rated according to quality. Search by author, journal, keyword, target area, intervention, service delivery mode, method, client sub-groups, or age group. Links to full-text generally take you to the journal website rather than the specific article.

Databib

With support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the libraries of Purdue and Pennsylvania State University have collaborated to create Databib: an online, annotated bibliography of research data repositories. A number of academic and research libraries are taking an active role in data curation, applying library science principles to help address the data deluge. Librarians are helping researchers formulate funder-required data plans, adapting library practice to help organize and describe research datasets, developing data collections and data repositories, performing digital preservation, and teaching data literacy. Librarians are in a good position to provide these services; unfortunately, there is currently no framework in place to support the organization and discovery of data repositories. Many funding agencies are requiring their sponsored researchers to submit their data to repositories without giving further instructions to them. What repositories are appropriate for a researcher to submit his or her data? How do potential users find appropriate data repositories and discover datasets that meet their needs? How can librarians help patrons who are looking for data find and integrate datasets into their research, learning, or teaching? Databib has been created to help address these needs for librarians, data users, data producers, publishers, and funding agencies.

Over the years, ProQuest has acquired the companies, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) and Chadwyck Healey.  For the past year, ProQuest has been developing a new search interface which they want to apply to all of their databases as well as those acquired from CSA and Chadwyck Healey.  The migration to the new interface has been in place for several months, and the Baylor University Libraries have now switched to the new ProQuest interface for the following resources:

As ProQuest continues to migrate their family of resources into the new interface, we will make the appropriate changes.

EBSCOhost eBook Collection (Preview)

Last year, the NetLibrary e-book service was obtained by EBSCOhost. EBSCOhost is in the process of moving the NetLibrary books from the NetLibrary platform, into the EBSCOhost platform, and adding more functionality through that platform. This is preview access to this new NetLibrary interface.

Some notes about the use of this preview:

  • Any changes to Baylor’s current netLibrary collection will not be reflected within the preview environment.
  • To make use of the personalization options available, you have to create a new and unique account in the EBSCOhost eBook Collection during the preview period. Information stored, including username, password and eBook information, will be deleted once the preview ends (around June 15, 2011).
  • Activity in this preview environment will not impact/affect our current live NetLibrary account, e.g., checkouts in the preview environment will not count as checkouts in the live NetLibrary environment.
