Shakespeare 400 Celebration (Nov. 1-3)

This semester, Baylor’s Libraries will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the printing of William Shakespeare’s “first folio” with three days of special events.

 

“Ben Johnson and the 1623 Shakespeare First Folio” with Performances of Selections from Shakespeare’s Works by Baylor Theater Students

This brown bag lunch is a come-and-go event featuring Dr. Maurice Hunt’s discussion of “Ben Johnson and the 1623 Shakespeare First Folio” and performances by students of Dr. Steven Pounders, as well as a special reading of an adaptation of “Much Ado About Nothing” by Olivia Taylor. The event will be moderated by Dr. Kevin Gardner, chair of the Department of English.

Dr. Cosart’s early music ensemble will entertain listeners with songs from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Eras.

 

A Showcase of Shakespeare Scholarship at Baylor

Join Baylor’s Libraries for a panel discussion on four unique aspects of Shakespeare’s impact on Western culture and beyond, moderated by Dr. William Weaver. This event qualifies for CAE credit for student attendees.

Hands-on Learning Activities

Create your own leather-bound copy of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” using pamphlet folding techniques common to the 17th century! This activity is open to limited participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Library will highlight their newly acquired tabletop screw press, modeled on the common press. The “Bookbeetle” replicates the experience of 17th century printing practices and demonstrates the history of print development.
