Communication in Film: The Messages they Give

I have always loved films and trying to figure out the messages that they convey or trying to understand the little details that can easily be missed. Films can contain so many different messages and it is very interesting to see how people interpret them. Everyone can view a message differently. These messages can also be seen through other outlets including social media, and different news sources. While these are just as interesting and powerful films hold a special place. You watch them all throughout your life and everyone interprets a message from it or a lesson that it can try to teach.  Films can be a very powerful way to communicate a message.

Most films can be easier to interpret and understand the message, such as movies like childhood films. Films that are meant for an older audience can start to become tricky to understand. While some are more straight forward others can be more difficult to understand. Films like Click or even The Lion King are examples of films that are on the easier side to interpret. This is because the message is so straight forward. Click while can be seen as a silly comedy, shows that every moment is important. The Lion King teaches us about responsibility, love and having courage. Then there are films that are much harder to understand. Some that come to mind are both produced by Ari Aster, they are called Hereditary and Midsommer. The themes and messages of these two films are so ambiguous and are hard to understand. Because these two movies are like this people can come up with different interpretations due to the message not being very clear. While there are some topics that are  easier to pick out like mental health and they both touch on religion a bit, the overall message is unclear. It would be interesting to know the thought process behind writing the film and trying to understand what message they are trying to communicate to the audience. It  Another thing that is interesting to see is how people interpret a more ambiguous film. One person could have a completely different take then some one else had. Perhaps it could be personal, cultural or even a social reason they interpret a film differently. Overall, it would be interesting to see how films can influence a persons life, as it can be different from each person. How a film influenced me could be similar or completely different from another person. Films can change perspectives or expose people to social issues that they have never really thought about before.

I had always had an interest in this topic, it is just something that I always found interesting. I first usually like to watch it myself and come to my own conclusions before watching a film analysis. It is interesting to see how someone else interpreted it, and whether or not is was similar or different. I have also found that a good way to understanding a films message is to discuss it with others. Different perspectives can be very enlightening.
