Action U.S.A. (John Stewart, 1989)

action_usaI couldn’t help it. As soon as I learned of the existence of this grade-Z late ’80s action epic shot entirely in and around Waco, I had to track down a copy and see it for myself. Granted, while the lame plotting, stilted acting, and atrocious dialogue made this a real chore to get through, watching a man being dangled from a helicopter that is zooming around the Alico Building, a car chase down Washington Ave., and a disastrous jump-the-cars scenario by the downtown railroad tracks is not without its charms. The stunts and explosions are actually fairly impressive given the budget; it’s just that there’s nothing—and I mean nothing—holding it together. (VHS)
