Revolutionary Road (Sam Mendes, 2008)

Revolutionary Road (Sam Mendes, 2008)Another year, another Hollywood awards-bait art film that purports to pull back the curtain and reveal all the social malaise, resentment, and disillusionment of suburban America. Is there really anything interesting left to say here? If there is, it isn’t to be found in Mendes’s latest, which perversely reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as youthful ’50s-era suburbanites trapped in their misery and clawing at each other while trying to get out. There are moments of raw emotional power, but overall the histrionics are more mechanical than moving.  (DVD Awards Screener)
