Transsiberian (Brad Anderson, 2008)

Transsiberian (Brad Anderson, 2008)The intriguing premise of this don’t-talk-to-strangers thriller from The Machinist‘s Brad Anderson isn’t quite derailed, but is at least sapped of some of its potential by a too-lengthy build-up that leads to a too-conventional climax. Sheltered Western fear of/fascination with the corrupt nature of former Eastern Bloc countries is effectively exploited (ah, those burly, loud,  vodka-swilling Russians!), but Woody Harrelson overplays his performance as a clueless American rube to the point that it’s hard to root for him.
