21 (Robert Luketic, 2008)

21A group of brilliant MIT students pool their collective acumen and develop a new and innovative way to count cards in Vegas and make off with millions at the blackjack tables—that’s about as far as the “based on a true story” connection goes. The rest of 21 has been Hollywoodized to within an inch of its life, but that’s not necessarily a terrible thing. They’ve made a fairly intriguing movie here (or at least a consistently entertaining one), albeit one that is predictably predictable and riddled with character cliches. And I’m not sure if the fact that the main characters were changed from being Asian (as they are in real life) to Caucasian is evidence that the production is racist or that they simply assumed that the audience is.
