World’s Greatest Dad (Bobcat Goldthwait, 2009)

Worlds_Greatest_DadThe Bobcat’s third outing as writer/director (and the first of his films seen by me) starts out as a caustic examination of a sad-sack single dad’s attempt to connect with his utterly perverse adolescent son and then morphs into a dark satire of artistic desperation and our society’s tendency to elevate anyone (no matter how undeserving) in death (Diablo Cody did something similar in Jennifer’s Body). It’s a bit uneven and certainly not for every taste, but parts of it are hilarious in the foulest kind of way, especially when you realize that the most repulsive character on-screen is being played by Juni from Spy Kids.
