Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson, 2009)

Fantastic_Mr_FoxThe irony is that, in moving entirely into the realm of fantasy and animation with Fantastic Mr. Fox, Anderson has made his most recognizably human and emotionally moving film in years. His trademark quirk seem loose and at home in the fully animated realm, and while the film recycles virtually all of his favorite aesthetic and narrative devices, from a story that hinges on a complex father-son dynamic, to a preponderance of British invasion rock (primarily early Stones), when brought to life by purposefully retro stop-motion animation, it seems almost new again.
