Up (Pete Docter, 2009)

upYawn—yet another masterpiece from the wizards at Pixar who somehow manage again and again to turn visually stunning children’s entertainment into meaningful and poignant statements about the human condition. Not a wrong step anywhere, and this is in a 3-D film that features a flying house, a potentially treacly old man-little boy friendship, and a bizarro world of giant birds and talking dogs. Easily one of the best films of the year, and it genuinely earns such cliche praises as “It made me laugh! It made me cry!” Well … it did! (Starplex 16, Waco, TX)
