It’s a shame no one is going to see this intriguing and frequently exciting, though not exactly flawless, experiment in using 3-D computer-generated animation for serious-minded entertainment. In pitting the human race against a peaceful society of aliens and asking, “What is the perpetuation of the species worth?,” the film may have very well have sunk itself by falling right in between the cracks of the older and younger demographics, with older audiences shunning it because it’s animated (and therefore assumed to be kiddie fare) and younger audiences skipping it because it’s a little too dark for pure summer escapism.
